A lunchtime spotting of JWs on their break from door-knocking...
by Jim_TX innot that big of a deal, but it is kind of humorous.... my wife and i went to a local mcdonald's for lunch.
yes, i know all the bad things that are in their foods... but it's difficult to find lunch places that are 'healthy' and low-cost.. anyway, she went and sat down, and i ordered the food.
as i came round the corner with the tray filled with burger, fries and the cups for our sodas, i spotted a group of four women sitting at one of the tables.. folks... i just want to make one thing very clear.

Fantastic quote on jwfacts Sparlock article
by cedars ini'm not sure how long it's been up, but jwfacts has written his own article discussing the sparlock debacle - and it's a great piece of work.. here is the link.... http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/blog/sparlock.php.
in the article he uses a fantastic quote from a 1994 awake!
magazine which reads as follows.... .

The use of the word sad is calculated, manipulative speech. To make Jehovah sad teaches the child that he has control over God's feelings. It also puts the onus on the child to transfer that sadness from the Almighty to himself. Witness kids learn early on that heavy and dark emotions are part of their worship to God. Living with negative emotions becomes second nature and is unlikely to be addressed properly.
Use of the word mad, would give rise to further questions. Why should God be mad at me for playing with one of my toys? And why would I want to worship a God who gets so mad at me for having a good time? By not using the word mad, that emotion is discounted. The child is certainly angry their toy has been taken away. But since that word isn't used, the kid can't identify that feeling with the event at hand.
The video is worse than counsel given in other forms because it leaves no room for the parent to slack off. The characters' expressions, tone and actions leave no room as to what the proper course of action should be.

The way witnesses tell experiences is really strange. There is always so much name dropping. Even though the names being dropped are nobodies. And every witnessing experience and encounter with someone is told in a way that each detail is pertinent and gives proof of divine intervention by the angels.
Very very weird.

Condolences Magwitch
The loss of a grandmother is so painful. Especially when the memories of her are beautiful. One of my grandmothers died a few years ago. She was one of the longest baptized witnesses in the district. I was very sad that she spent her life in this cult, sacrificed her dreams for it, and left it as a legacy (along with my other grandparents) to my family. I wish she had had the tools and the courage to get out.
But it doesn't lessen the love I will always feel for her. She was the best grandmother in the whole world.

12/15/12 Watchower Study Edition - Higher Eduction = Thinking in a "complicated" manner
by yourmomma ini found this quote from the 12/15/12 p.29 study edition of the watchtower to be hilarious:.

September 11, 2001- Where were you?
by SophieG ini work at a major airline in the in-flight training department.
i was sitting at the desk on the computer, i kid you not... writing the security (hijacking) curriculum for 2002, when someone came in and told me a plane flew into the wtc.
we all thought it was one of our planes.

panhandlegirl - I learned of the events throughout the day. We were out in the neighborhood and had access to all the usual technology. Just like everyone across the country, the JWs were talking about the events of the day. I have family and friends in NY so we were trying to get through and check everyone's safety. But I still stayed out in field service most of the day. That's why I put the on my post above.
SophieG - I live in a suburb. People were out and about. Actually caught a lot of people home. They were crying.
Sad day for sure.

The generation that saw the end of the Vietnam War will never die!
by life is to short inso what will be the new light on having such a young gb member?
will it be that obviously jesus clearly meant that evidently, plainly, unmistakably and with out a doubt (matt 24:34) that this generation that overlapped with the generation that saw ww1 and would overlap with the generation that saw ww2 which would than clearly overlap with the ones who saw the end of the vietnam war will never die.. this new gb is younger then i am and i just barley remember the end of the vietnam war.. how do the older ones keep believing this?
how can someone who is in their 60's to 80's swallow this?
